Parents' Meeting in Grade Ten
The road of education is long, yet the heart of nurturing is burning with passion. In order to further enhance communication between home and school, help parents accurately understand the new College Entrance Examination subject selection requirements, and assist the 10th grade students in scientifically planning their academic directions, our Senior High School Department held a grand parent-teacher meeting on January 10th with the theme of 'Heart-to-Heart at Home and School, Side-by-Side in Subject Selection'. All the parents of students from Grade 10, with their deep concern for their children's growth, arrived on time, engaging in a profound exchange with the school leaders and teachers about growth and planning.
First and foremost, at 10.10 A.M., the school-level parent meeting officially began in the school auditorium, which was hosted by Vice Principal Xu Zitai, and attended by all the teachers and parents of the 10th grade students.
At the beginning of the meeting, Assistant Principal Xu Zuitai, on behalf of the school, extended a warm welcome and heartfelt thanks to all the parents. Subsequently, he provided a comprehensive introduction to Anqing Foreign Language School's educational philosophy, development plan, and the interpretation of the new College Entrance Examination policy. In the meantime, Assistant Principal Xu Zuitai emphasized the significance of Senior One as the foundation of a student's senior high school career and a crucial period for course selection.
Subsequently, in response to the issue that parents were most concerned about, namely the new College Entrance Examination course selection, Assistant Principal Xu Zuitai, in combination with the '3+1+2' new College Entrance Examination model of Anhui Province, used simple and understandable language to elaborate on the core points of the course selection policy, the requirements of college admission programs for selected subjects, as well as the characteristics and coverage of different course selection combinations.
In addition, based on the actual teaching situation of Anqing Foreign Language School and the selection experience of previous students, Assistant Principal Xu Zuitai reminded parents that choosing subjects was not about 'following the crowd'. Instead, parents should comprehensively consider their children's subject strengths, interests, and future career plans, and select the most suitable subject combination for their children. Accordingly, parents listened attentively throughout the process, and from time to time took photos of key points with their mobile phones. Thus, the atmosphere in the lecture hall was practical and focused.
What's more, after the school-level parent meeting concluded, the parents proceeded in an orderly manner to their children's respective classes to participate in the more targeted class parent meetings, during which head teachers of each class initially gave a comprehensive introduction to the basic situation of the class to the parents, including the class management philosophy, the achievements in building the class atmosphere, the training of class cadres, in addition to the various learning and cultural and sports activities carried out by the class recently.
Meanwhile, regarding the topic of subject selection, the head teachers, taking into account the individual characteristics of the students in the class, such as students with balanced subjects but no obvious strengths, students with a strong subject but weak in other subjects, and students with clear goals but whose subject selection does not match their goals, analyzed the suitable subject selection directions for each of them one by one, reminding parents to communicate more with their children, respect their children's will, and avoid making decisions for their children forcefully.
Afterwards, the subject teachers entered the classrooms one by one. Taking into account the teaching characteristics of their respective subjects, the learning difficulties, as well as the students' learning situations in the class, they analyzed the problems existing in students' learning, providing specific learning guidance methods. Also, concerning the questions raised by the parents such as 'Is poor performance in a certain subject suitable for choosing the subjects?' and 'How to balance the study of various subjects after choosing the subjects?', both the subject teachers and the head teachers patiently and meticulously answered each question, giving reasonable suggestions based on the characteristics of the subjects and the actual situations of the students.
Last but not the least, during the final communication session, parents actively and proactively sought information from the teachers about their children's performance at school, sharing their children's study status at home, and jointly discussing the growth plans and subject selection ideas for their children with the teachers. Besides, many parents expresses that through this parent meeting, not only did they solve the confusion regarding subject selection, but they also gained a clearer understanding of their children's learning situation. Therefore, they would subsequently cooperate better with Anqing Foreign Language School in carrying out educational work.
In summary, education is a warm spiritual practice. Selecting courses is a crucial turning point in a student's senior high school life. Thus, the successful holding of this parent meeting in Senior One has consolidated the consensus and strength of home-school collaboration. In the future, Our Senior High School Department will continue to uphold the educational philosophy of home-school collaboration, working together with parents as one, and supporting students to move forward steadily and shine brightly during their senior high school years.
